Attractions of Walled Gardens

I heard reports that at the recents Learning Without Walls conference there were mentions of the benefits of Facebook’s walled garden approach ad users, especially young people, can create content in the knowledge that it won’t escape easily from the Fb environment and they’ll be able to restrict access or delete the content, with only Fb still having access to the deleted content.

An article on the BBC News web site, however, pointed out some problems with Facebook’s open approach to app developments. “Facebook should mimic Apple app security restrictions“, was the suggestion, and vet apps before releasing them.

Hmm, might 2011 be the time when a Walled Garden becomes a positive aspect of a service?
